Security explained

What Is a Level 4 Personal Protection Officer in Texas?

Texas licenses private security in levels. Most people have met a Level 2 or Level 3 officer at a shopping center or apartment gate. Level 4 is different, and if you are searching for a bodyguard in Dallas-Fort Worth, it is the license you are looking for.

The levels, in plain language

Level 2 is a non commissioned, unarmed security officer. Level 3 is a commissioned officer: trained and licensed to carry a firearm while in uniform on assignment, protecting a location, property or event. Level 4 is a Personal Protection Officer, or PPO: a commissioned officer who has completed additional state approved training and is authorized to provide close, armed protection to a specific person, in plain clothes, wherever that person goes.

What a Level 4 officer can do that a Level 3 cannot

A Level 3 officer protects a place. A Level 4 officer protects you: in the car, at dinner, walking into a courthouse, at a concert, at home overnight. The training covers threat assessment, movement, defensive tactics and the judgment to keep a situation quiet rather than loud.

Who hires a PPO in Dallas-Fort Worth

Executives during roadshows and shareholder events. Athletes and artists in town for a game or a show. High net worth families. People in high conflict divorce or custody matters, or dealing with a stalker or a threatening former partner. Employers handling a sensitive termination. Parents of a teenager who is going out without them.

The armed chauffeur

Because Bryan Limousines and Security operates both a fleet and a licensed security division, we can put the PPO behind the wheel. Personal Protection Transportation is a luxury SUV or limousine driven by a plain clothes, armed Level 4 officer. From the outside it looks like a chauffeured ride. Inside, it is a protection detail.
